Are these Acceptable Solutions acceptable to you?

MBIE have called for submissions on proposals to amend 32 existing Acceptable Solutions and Verification Methods, update references to standards and industry documents cited in the Acceptable Solutions and Verification Methods, and introduce two new Acceptable Solutions.

The two new Acceptable Solutions concern waterproofing and the updates cover changes to the requirements for glass barriers, safety glass, foil insulation and slip resistance of walking surfaces.

Housing Minister, Nick Smith, stated that the changes will ensure standards keep pace with industry developments, best practice and new research. According to the Minister, “[t]he construction sector is growing at a phenomenal rate and building activity is at record levels. We need to ensure we maintain the standards of building work through this boom. These new and updated standards are part of our plan for addressing New Zealand’s housing challenges.”

If you would like to have your say on these proposals, make sure you provide a submission via this link – http://www.mbie.govt.nz/info-services/building-construction/consultations/acceptable-solutions-verification-methods before 31 August
