Recently issues have been raised with the quality of building, with the Auckland Council failing up to a third of its inspections.
Now it has been highlighted that sub-standard earthworks on new housing sites in Auckland are threatening neighbouring properties and costing homeowners thousands.
Auckland Council says it is shutting down around two sites a week because of dangerous excavation work. Cutting corners (in some cases literally) has resulted in significant additional costs for homeowners.
As the building industry continues to expand, particularly in Auckland and Canterbury, it is essential that building products and processes are adequately monitored in order to prevent another building crisis similar to the leaky building epidemic.
