We will make a mild effort to resist ice-related puns, but this is hard to do with the announcement of Antarctica New Zealand and Certified Builders Association’s Apprent-ICE initiative.
Apprentices or newly qualified builders can now apply to become ‘Apprent-ICE 2015’, a role that involves spending three months working on the upgrade of the Hillary Field Centre at Scott Base in Antarctica.
The job description for the role calls for a passion for complex construction, the ability to work unsupervised, and strong health, safety, and environmental values.
The $4million upgrade to bring the base up to international standards will take two summers. The chosen Apprent-ICE will begin work in January after a week of training.
For one lucky apprentice, the job freeze is clearly over! Click here to read The Press’ article.
