Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate introduces building and construction class

The Auckland college has introduced a new building and construction class in order to help students to gain employment in the construction industry, or in pursuing further construction-related study.

In addition to learning skills in class, such as how to measure and to use tools, the students go on placements once a week and learn how to make trusses and frames for buildings and houses.

There are currently 24 students involved in the programme, which the college believes will be ‘bigger and better’ next year.

It is positive to see earlier training for students with an interest in building and construction, and it will be interesting to see whether other secondary schools follow suit.
